Journalism as Information Provider

Week 1
Journalism is the practice of investigating and reporting events, issues and trends to the mass audiences via print, broadcast and online media such as newspapers, magazines and books, radio and television stations and networks, and blogs and social and mobile media. People who responsible in gather and package news and information for mass dissemination are journalists.
Journalism exists to provide information. The main intention of a journalist is to provide their readers and audiences with accurate, reliable information they need to function in society. But what’s really compelling is a lack of information or true facts. Journalist nowadays in context does not really report facts accurately and faithfully and to respect the right of the public to the truth. There are restriction by the government (Code of Ethics) of what to publish about certain article and may worry about endanger the national security of the country especially in terms of racial, ethnicity, culture and etc.
People nowadays are more aware and concern about what happen to the society unlike people in the olden days that are more conservative and naïve to believe exactly on local news report. The rise of more educated people which know their rights with the help of technology innovation helps them to clarify the truth behind certain incident by searching for various sources in the Internet besides than the local news report. For example, Bersih rally evoked by the citizen who held to call for free and fair elections in Malaysia. There were much confusion on facts between the local news and the sources from the internet. Which one is true? We can only find out ourselves.
