We Are Affecting By Nowadays Media (Blog 4)

Dose the media affecting us?

Definitely the answer is yes. Nowadays, most of the people rely on media very much. For instance, people who finish working will immediately turn on TV after they reached their home in order to watch programs on the TV. It is also common for drivers to turn on and listen to the radio station that obtain some information. This is to illustration that media has a large influence to the people and is inseparable from the people and media certainly affects us in every aspect of our life.

The way media affect us is by being in every corner of our life, be it when we woke up or step out from our home, different kinds of media will always be there to provide different kinds of information to us. It affects all of our perceptions, be it the thing that we see, the thing that we hear, and even the way we act and speak are all affected by media. It affects us by influencing our perceptions and try to steer our mind in order to try and make us believe what they are saying. Media has the potential to form our behavior without our own awareness. Due to the invisible hand that is manipulated by interest bearing parties, our eyes are blinded with the so-called “Fact”, receiving what those parties what us to see or hear and changing our behavior to suit their interest.

Can we measure how the media affect us?

Yes, I think so. Even though media are often manipulated to promote self-interest, not all of these are bad. The depth on media influence can be measure by looking, for example at the success of a campaign promoted through the media. One of these campaign is the go green campaign, aiming to save the earth. Due to heavy promotion through different media, the campaign has awaken a lot of people and we are no longer ignorant to issues concerning the earth. The effect of media can then be measured by how it successfully makes the public know our earth are sick and adopt environmentally friendly actions such as using recycle bag to reduce the number of plastic bag. Even the plastic bag for nowadays are able decompose itself after a few years and these bags are introduced by Tesco.

As we can see, more and more people response to eco-friendly activities, and the heavy promotion by the media makes companies adopt eco-friendly tactics in order to attract customers who are concerned with the environment. For example, on Saturday shopping centers do not provide plastic bag for customer in order to encourage them to bring their own recycle bag and some of the shopping centers will give out free points whenever the customers bring their own recycle bag and the points can be use it to redeem the free goods. So, media do truly affects us and its effect on the public can then be measured on how successful a campaign that run on the media and its ability to raise awareness among the public.
