Being A Malaysian (Blog 2)

We are feeling thankful to be celebrating 56 years of independence. One thing for sure, we love all our food. Because Malaysia is a multiculturalism and multi religious country, we get to learn about other cultures and religions as well. I am proud to be a Malaysian. In general, being a Malaysian means you are born in Malaysia. Nowadays, being a Malaysian to most people means we call everybody 'bos', 'uncle' and 'auntie', we have our funny or rather weird language such as 'abuden', 'kantoi' and 'palau' and others. Being a Malaysian to me means that we must learn to respect other races, religions and cultures, rather than knowing I am a Malaysian because I have the 'My card'. As Malaysians, we must learn to accept similarities and differences between and among people.

I personally respect all races and religions in Malaysia. Some of the news reports related to races or religions sometimes saddens me. They sometimes caused stereotypes and discrimination between people. Take for example, cows are sacred to Hindus. In 2009 a resident group from the city of Shah Alam used a severed cow's head to protest over the relocation of Hindu temple to an area close to their housing estate. Therefore, this group of people shows no respect to other religions. Their action may caused 'war' between these two religions. Then we as Malaysians will be no longer united and will lose respect for each other and hence cause violations among people.
