Hah, ironic - I just spent a few hours surfing the web on both Tumblr and Twitter, and here I am, talking about social media addiction. Pfft.
Social media, social media, social media - nothing new about this term, eh?
It's plastered everywhere (though not always in the form of the word 'social media'), from "Like us on Facebook" on the receipt of your latest purchase to "Follow me on Twitter" on the cover of your newly purchased novel.
What impact will the audience have from social media?
Like everything else, social media brings both advantages and disadvantages to the common population. Everybody knows the textbook answer of that right? The good being it helps us communicate, helps us gather information, helps us reach out, yada yada bla bla. The bad being internet threats, health problems (because people sacrifice exercise for internet activity), yada yada bla bla.
But what I realize most would be the internet addiction factor. I think I spend more time watching my friends tap away on their smartphones to update their Facebook status on where we're having tea or watching them spend minutes choosing the most suitable filter to be used on their photo before uploading it on Instagram than I do talking to them over tea these days.
Also, I have friends who are desperate for followers - be it on Twitter, on Tumblr, on DeviantArt, or even Pinterest. They get really excited when they gain new followers, and have even resorted to use the number of followers they have as a means of measurement on how 'great' they are.
... All of which leaves me rolling my eyes and walking away to interact with a nearby wall or something.
What impact with social media have from the audience?
From MySpace to Friendster to Facebook, new social media platforms are being developed over time and added into the spectrum of the already existing social media platforms. Fact, there are more IT developers now than there were 10 years ago. (Well, duh, Johanna. The internet's a pretty new phenomenon!) And I can only picture the amount of IT developers increasing over the next few years.
This, of course, would result in more social media platforms, more mobile app(lication)s, and more information overload. (We might need a phone or a tablet than has a minimum of 50 GB memory soon).
Will the government/state change with this change in technology? Malaysia?
Yes, there will be changes in the government.
In fact, there will be changes in everything. From the economy, to politics, to communications, to existing laws, and even to simple stuff like flushing the toilet (who knows, right? Maybe they'll have an app for flushing the toilet some time from now?).
Why though?
Simple - an increase in technology will result in the increase of literacy levels. This, in turn, would result in the increase of information and knowledge a person consumes. More knowledgeable individuals in a society would then result in a modern and highly educated society - which means that the population would be more wary of the politics game that is being played. And this, should they choose to be politically involved, would cause individuals to take a stand for when things don't go right in their eyes.

So, what do you think about the social media scene?
